Many years ago, I arrived in Rwanda with no idea how much this country would change me. I expected beautiful scenery, but what I found was something much deeper.

I found a country that cared.

The streets were clean. People respected one another. There was a feeling of safety, order and pride that stayed with me long after I returned home. Every visit made me love Rwanda a little more.

Eventually, I stopped asking, "When am I coming back?" and started asking, "How can I become part of this story?"

That question became 650 KGL Place.

As I travelled around Kigali, I noticed there were plenty of places to stay, but very few reflected the modern, stylish and welcoming Africa I believed visitors deserved to experience. I wanted to create accommodation that reflected the Rwanda I had fallen in love with—clean, thoughtfully designed, comfortable and proudly African.

I wasn't trying to build another apartment.

I was trying to create a feeling.

A feeling that when people arrived, they knew they were in Africa—not through stereotypes, but through warmth, community, thoughtful design and genuine hospitality.

The journey wasn't easy.

Building a business in another country teaches you humility. There were language barriers, different ways of working and many moments that tested my determination. My early team and I didn't always see things the same way, but every challenge became a lesson. Together we laid the foundations of what 650 KGL Place would become.

As the business evolved, so did the team. The people who helped shape 650 KGL Place in the early days will always be part of its story. Some have moved on to new opportunities, while new team members have joined us with fresh ideas, renewed energy and a shared commitment to our vision.

Every person has left their mark.

Every lesson has made us better.

There were times I felt exhausted.

There were moments when I questioned whether I should continue.

But then another guest would tell me how welcome they felt. Someone would discover their favourite coffee shop, buy fresh fruit from the local market, enjoy a drink with local people, take a moto through Kigali or simply tell me they had fallen in love with Rwanda.

In those moments, I remembered why I started.

650 KGL Place has never simply been about accommodation.

It is about introducing people to one of Africa's most inspiring countries.

It is about creating a place where travellers experience the real Kigali—its people, its community, its culture and its kindness.

We encourage you to leave the apartment, walk the neighbourhood, support local businesses, learn a few Kinyarwanda words and experience Rwanda with an open mind.

We believe travel is at its best when it creates connection.

If you leave with wonderful memories, new friendships and a desire to return, then we have achieved exactly what we set out to do.
